Boston Children’s Hospital – a top leader in pediatric care across the globe – will soon be launching the first-ever KIF1A NEXTGen Clinic, a groundbreaking center of excellence model program dedicated entirely to the clinical care of patients with KIF1A mutations. This clinic will bring together a specialized, multidisciplinary team of providers at BCH to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care tailored specifically to the unique needs of the KIF1A community.

This year, we are incredibly proud to announce and support the launch of Gia’s Closet at Boston Children’s Hospital. Gia’s Closet will be a dedicated space filled with toys for KIF1A patients during visits to the NEXTGen Clinic – offering comfort, joy, and a sense of childhood during what can often be long and overwhelming hospital days. Gia’s Closet will be an ongoing, annual donation, with the first donation of toys to align with the NEXTGen Clinic’s grand opening in Summer 2026.

Spearheaded by the Capello family, Gia’s Closet is a meaningful tribute to the life and legacy of Gia Capello, created to bring comfort, joy, and moments of normalcy to children with KIF1A receiving care at Boston Children’s Hospital. Inspired by Gia’s spirit and resilience, this initiative serves as a powerful form of remembrance, ensuring that her impact continues to be felt by families facing similar challenges. Through thoughtfully selected toys and activities, Gia’s Closet honors her memory by creating opportunities for smiles, distraction during difficult moments, and meaningful support for children and families navigating their own KIF1A journey. In this way, Gia’s legacy lives on through acts of kindness, connection, and hope for the community she will forever remain a part of.

We are deeply grateful to the Capello family for their generosity, vision, and commitment to creating Gia’s Closet in honor of Gia. Through this initiative, Gia’s family has created a powerful reminder of the strength, compassion, and connection that define the KIF1A community, and we are honored to partner with them in carrying Gia’s memory forward.
