A message from Athena’s family in California, USA:
Athena is 6 years old. She was diagnosed at the age of 5 when I requested genetic testing for her after speaking to her orthopedic surgeon. We kept thinking we were missing something. Something wasn’t adding up. Her ortho doctor and I decided that we should speak to her neurologist again. This all resulted in her genetic testing coming back positive for KIF1A and CAM2B.
Athena is a sweet girl. She hummed all words until the age of 3 1/2. Then started to speak, now she speaks but has been diagnosed with speech apraxia. We understand most of what she says but others can still have a hard time understanding her at times. She is diagnosed with sever ADHD and sensory seeking behaviors. She has issues with weak muscles in her legs particularly on one side; she is behind her peers in school; we are waiting on sleep study now and to have her eyes checked. Athena also has cyclic vomiting syndrome with abdominal migraines. She is overly sensitive to EVERYTHING and doesn’t like to leave my side.
Right now, Athena loves training in the Special Olympics, loves to make new friends, and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up. She has a true love and gentle touch for animals. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to draw people in and make friends. She is kind and loves everyone. She makes a friend everywhere she goes. ❤️
