Dear KIF1A Community,

Equipment deemed medically necessary should never be inaccessible for our friends diagnosed with KIF1A Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND). Thanks to a generous donation made directly to support the creation of this much needed program, KIF1A.ORG can now provide additional support and extend a helping hand to those diagnosed with KAND.

What Can KIF1A.ORG’s Helping Hand for KAND Do For Me or My Loved One?

Helping Hand for KAND is designed to assist KAND patients in securing medically necessary equipment while reducing financial stress on families. If you’ve been trying to fund a new piece of medical equipment or a need is in your near future, find out if you are eligible for assistance through this program!

Equipment Covered:

  • Mobility (canes, crutches, wheelchair, gait trainer, medical stroller, standing aids, etc.)
  • Medical (feeding pumps, cooling vests and mattresses, seizure helmets, orthotics, feeding, seizure alert devices)
  • Positioning (mats, wedges, medical recliners, stair systems, hoist systems, etc.)
  • Safety (special needs car seats, feeding chairs, bath chairs, floor sitters, etc.)
  • Speech communication devices/software
  • Other medically necessary assistive devices

KIF1A.ORG will start accepting applications on April 4, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (New York) on a first-come, first-serve basis. With Helping Hand for KAND, our goal is to enhance the ability of KAND patients to navigate life more safely, comfortably and independently. Have questions about eligibility or the application process? Email Charlotte at Charlotte@kif1a.org.

With hope,

Charlotte Klinepeter
