Are you studying KIF1A? KIF1A.ORG is dedicated to supporting and accelerating patient-centered research that can improve the lives of those affected by KIF1A Associated Neurological Disorder.
This year, KIF1A.ORG’s Mini Grant Initiative will offer a total of $30,000 of support; each researcher can apply for up to $10,000 in funding for KIF1A projects. Awardees will also have their work on our page and be invited to speak at our 2027 KAND Family and Scientific Conference!
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from academic and clinical institutions, non-profits, and biotechnology companies. In alignment with our global patient community, we will consider applications within and outside of the United States.
In support of developing careers driving patient-centered KIF1A research, we strongly encourage early and mid-career researchers to apply.
Mini Grant Priorities
All researchers are welcome to apply. As a patient advocacy group, our focus areas include, but are not limited to:
- Improving patient representation in scientific literature:
- Research of understudied KIF1A variants, including those outside the motor domain and/or Variants of Uncertain Significance
- Assessment of patient perspectives and priorities
- Studying KIF1A symptoms with high impact on quality of life
- Use of preclinical systems to model understudied KAND symptoms
